Highlights of the Boat Tour: Shandrani to Mahebourg

The SS Dalblair Shipwreck (1902): As we crossed the lagoon from Shandrani Beachcomber, we passed the historic remains of the SS Dalblair. This British iron-hulled ship ran aground on the Pointe d'Esny reef on February 4, 1902, during a heavy fog. You can still see its rusted boilers and hull sitting above the waterline today.

The Mahebourg Waterfront & Statue: Upon arriving at the Mahebourg Market, we visited the Monument to the Battle of Grand Port. This statue commemorates the famous 1810 naval battle between the French and the British. It is a unique site as it pays tribute to the fallen sailors of both nations in what was Napoleon’s only naval victory over the British.

Mahebourg Market (The Bazaar): A vibrant, authentic Mauritian experience filled with local spices, tropical fruits, and traditional street food like Dholl Puri.
