Campo de Borja - The Empire of Garnacha

Campo de Borja wine region was established in 1980, however wine has been produced in this area since 1203. Campo de Borja DO is located in the province of Aragon in the north of Spain. Apart form Campo de Borja Aragon contains three other Denomination de Origen, including Calatayud, Carinena and Somontano. The capitol of the Aragon is beautiful and historic town of Zaragoza.
The climate of Campo de Borja is definitely continental with some Atlantic influences during the winter time, summers are long and really hot and this area is very well know from the windy conditions especially Cierzo wind.
In Campo de Borja there is only 17 producers including three large cooperatives, including Bodega Arragnesas controlled 55% of the market, Bodegas Borsao controlled 30% of the market and finally Bodegaz Ainzon controlled 5% of the local market.
Apart from them there are also Bodegas Moncayo, Bodegas Palmeri Sicilia.
