Making DIY Gumdrop Light Decorations With Vacuum Forming | Outdoor Christmas Decorations

We wanted to make Gumdrop Light Decorations for our Harbeck Lights Christmas Light Show so we did what any maker would do and build our own gumdrop vacuum forming machine, spent too much money on glitter, cracked our mold, waited for glue to dry and dry and dry, and got amazingly detailed gumdrop lights!

We show how we made our custom negative vacuum forming setup to form over 60 DIY gumdrops by vacuum forming PETG and then decorating them using copious amounts of glitter and glue! We then used color changing LED pixel strips to control the sequencing of the lights. The glitter does a beautiful job of refracting the light and details in the surface making these a great outdoor Christmas decoration idea.

We used Fusion 360 to build our 3d models and then 3d printed them out on the Prusa i3mkIII. We then used these forms as our molds/bucks for vacuum forming these translucent decorations.
