Removal of the abandoned Interstate-95 highway embankment in Rumney Marsh is the largest remaining opportunity to restore salt marsh in Massachusetts involving clean fill removal. The 2.4- mile long embankment filled 120 acres of the marsh and affected the hydrology of marsh by creating a barrier to flow with only one opening at the relocated Pines River. While there as been some successful restoration to date, much remains to be done to address the impacts of this eroding embankment to the 444 acre upstream wetlands. My thanks to Dan Brielmann at e-awakening.com for producing this video.
