Fakarava' s Pink Sand Beaches - The most beautiful place in the world!

We just can't seem to leave Fakarava. It is an incredible atoll that has so much to offer a visiting sailor.

Apart from snorkelling or diving in the south pass, another amazing thing to do is to visit the motus on the western side of the south pass. Here you will find incredible Pink Sand Beaches, crystal clear water, thousands of sea slugs and amazing fish life. The best part is that we always seem to be the only people there. Surely this is the most beautiful place we have seen?
It is a long dinghy ride as there is no short cut across the reef but it is well worth it.

As Dylan had done his refresher diving session with Jean Francois, it was now time for him to do the Wall of Sharks dive.
We went don to 29 meters and were once again surrounded by an incredible amount of Grey Sharks.
We went into the cave from where you can watch the sharks pass by slowly. What an experience.

Not only are there sharks down there, there are also some really interesting fish like the Trigger Fish. At the time of making this video, we found out how dangerous they can be and will bite a diver or swimmer.

Here is an extract from Scuba.com and this is exactly what the fish in our video was doing. It looks like we were lucky.

'It’s when they are nesting (around April/May is some regions) that they get very feisty and will rigorously protect these nests, which is not to say they don’t get territorial even in non breeding seasons. However, for the most part it’s only to protect their nests and they are pretty docile otherwise. It’s also believed that they’re more aggressive in some places more than others, like Thailand and Egypt for example.

A prominent sign of trouble to come is when the fish rolls onto its side and with their independently rotating beady eyes, gives you the old evil eye just before they charge at you. Sometimes you will see its black fin tips raise in warning of the attack. And then with that little or no at all warning you can count on it to attack and it has the teeth to back it up!'
