The ancient city of Dali, in Yunnan province, takes on a completely different charm at night. 🌙✨
When the sun sets, the old town streets glow with warm lantern light, highlighting the traditional Bai-style architecture—whitewashed walls, carved wooden windows, and tiled roofs. The ancient city gates and walls are beautifully illuminated, standing as reminders of Dali’s long history as a cultural and trading hub on the Southern Silk Road.
At night, the cobblestone streets come alive with:
🎶 Street performers playing traditional Bai and Chinese instruments.
🛍️ Night markets offering handicrafts, silver jewelry, and tie-dye cloth (a Bai specialty).
🍲 Local food stalls serving Yunnan snacks like grilled cheese (rushan), rice noodles, and flower cakes.
🍵 Teahouses and cafés where people relax and enjoy the mountain breeze.
The atmosphere is peaceful yet lively, with a mix of locals and travelers wandering under the lanterns. Beyond the shops and food, you’ll often see the backdrop of the Cangshan Mountains, their silhouette visible under the moonlight.
