Few figures in Texas history are as legendary, as controversial, or as enigmatic as William “Bigfoot” Wallace. He came to Texas from Virginia in 1837, survived the infamous “Black Bean Incident”, and served in the Mexican-American War and against the Comanche as a Texas Ranger.
But, a little known chapter of his life is the story of his time leading a mail train from San Antonio to El Paso, a nearly 1,200 mile round-trip through perhaps the most dangerous territory in America. Wallace completed this trip countless times over the span of a few years, and survived numerous close-calls with the Comanche during that time. But, one particular fight near The Devil’s River in West Texas proved to be the most vicious.
() join History At The OK Corral for this little-known tale of a vicious battle between a Texas Ranger legend and a band of fearless Comanche raiders in the vast expanses of the wilds of West Texas.
