There are three types of chart of accounts in sap
1. operational/operative
2. group
3. country

Out of this operational chart of accounts is mandatory and user can't post any document except maintaining operative COA.

Rest two are optional. Group COA is mainly used for reporting purpose.

Following is the example of country COA.

We have two companies. ABC LTD. (INDIA) and ABC PLC (US), which uses common chart of account. US company has some specific reporting requirement. Hence in such case, use country COA.
