Newfoundland Part 5b La Manche Cape Race

At La Manche village a pretty, easy unpaved trail leads from the provincial campground to the abandoned village of La Manche. If you understand how the New Brunswick tidal surges are caused, it’s easy to see how a storm surge could wipe out any structures in a cove such as this. We had seen similar coastal storm devastation in Burin and St. Lawrence on the Burin Peninsula.

We hadn’t booked a reservation at Mistaken Point but got a good view of perfect fiberglass impressions of the fossils.

The Cape Race Lighthouse is not open to tourists but the Myrick Wireless Centre was a gem of communication and Titanic history. Guglielmo Marconi, these Italians keep showing up in history.
