Ferocious race. Not my best strategic racing (to maximise team points). Rather I just chased wheel the whole way.
The team doesn't really seem to be so teamy. At least I hear nothing of tactics, collaboration, racing strategy. But then perhaps the others are as clueless as me. Feeling like an outsider, but that's OK if that's what they want. So effectively this was just a points based scratch race. Everyone for him/her self.
I'd rather be an a team as it was long ago with Art and Jim. When every rider was rooting for every other one. Trying to encourage one another, work out racing ploys.
Perhaps it is just my being too weak these days to be at a level where there are riders that really want to get into team racing.
Now if I has a few decades more feisty legs and lungs, thing'sd be radically different. And infinitely more engaging.
Still, this race was quiet something. Very much made all the more fun by watching the videos that Eric Schlange put together for ZRL. His advice (which I was too cluelss to follow, but appreciated greatly), and the 3 videos. Together, they were great fun, and so engaging.
I imagine that I might have done better to just follow the front group as long as I could, then really blitz the climb, go for broke, on the last lap. Hopeless in front of a chasing pack, but 1 in 1000 chance of something. After all, everyone was getting pretty tired by the end. I certainly was.
My dominant experience was severe EIB (asthma/breathing struggles). Surprised that my HR didn't go higher, but then the intense efforts were short.
