Despite being told to evacuate, I chose to stay. I purchased my home less than 1 month prior to the hurricane and didn't want to leave it behind. The locals told me it's almost always dramatized on the media.
So, I prepared instead. In all reality, I was very lucky and extremely fortunate to have ended up safe. My property experienced damage, but none directly to my house.
The aftermath of the hurricane was my main issue. The flooding, inability to find any gas and no food on the shelves caused some problems for me. I learned a lot and next time, I'll be far more prepared!
