John McCain served as a US Senator from January 1987 until his death in August 2018.
He was the senior Senator from Arizona, was Republican presidential nominee in the 2008 United States election, and a war hero. The Senator served the US as both a Captain in the Navy, and as a Congressman in both Houses. He was the ranking member on the US Senate Select Committee on Armed Services, on the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, and Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions.
