Every year, in drought-stricken district of Beed, thousands of families migrate for work, with many women becoming cane cutters.

The job is grueling—long hours, unsanitary conditions, and no toilets in the fields. Menstruation brings infections and lost wages. So many opt for a hysterectomy as a quick solution but with little education on reproductive health, many don’t realise the risks.

We profile women suffering the long-term consequences—chronic pain, social stigma and marital strain. And the activists who are working to educate them on reproductive health and the downsides of a hysterectomy. But is that enough?
