For Joanne Fraser, joining the Community Council was a great way to get to know her community when she moved into the area and to ensure that the voices of local people were heard in decisions that affect them most.
Community Councils perform an important role locally. They generally meet every 4-6 weeks and discuss a wide range of issues affecting their area. Community Councils bridge the gap between the Council and communities and help to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent. The main purpose of Community Councils is to find out and express the views of the community to the local authority and other public bodies.
