Meet Harrison Mumia, the president of Atheists in Kenya Society. He hopes to create a platform for non-religious people in a country where a majority of the population has a religious upbringing.
“Let people believe what they want to believe, let your personal opinion be yours,” says Mumia.
But his drive to build an atheist community hasn't been easy as non-believers in the country face prejudice, fear and discrimination. While they hold the government to account on issues of morality, and support gay rights, the main objective is simple: Promote the acceptance of atheists in Kenya. "We want Kenyans to accept that we are part of them. And we are normal," he says.
