In the aftermath of Uganda’s recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections, most veteran MPs—including Medard Lubega Sseggona and Ibrahim Semujju Nganda—accepted their defeats with grace. One notable exception was Mathias Mpuuga. As the nation continues to reel from allegations of a deeply flawed and unfree electoral process—and with opposition leader Bobi Wine still in hiding—Mpuuga, who had previously been expelled from the National Unity Platform (NUP) over corruption allegations, held a controversial press conference.
During the briefing, Mpuuga claimed that his defeat was the result of collusion between the ruling NRM and NUP—a statement that immediately drew widespread criticism and derision. Many observers dismissed his claims as self-serving, viewing them as an attempt to turn personal grievance into political drama. His remarks left audiences both angry and incredulous, further fueling debate over accountability, loyalty, and the credibility of Uganda’s political landscape.
Watch here as Mpuuga makes these contentious claims.
