Exploring Shipley’s Templar Church & the Famous Jonathan Creek Windmill

Join me on a relaxed walk through one of Sussex’s most atmospheric historic spots — St Mary’s Church, Shipley, a Norman church once tied to the Knights Templar, complete with sheep grazing peacefully in the ancient graveyard. We explore its unique architecture, ironstone porch stone, medieval corbels, stained glass by Kempe, royal connections, and the beautiful Caryll family alabaster tomb.



From there, we wander to Shipley Windmill, the iconic post mill used as Jonathan Creek’s home in the BBC series, and discover its links to Hilaire Belloc, the celebrated poet who lived just beside it.
