The People You Meet When You Stop Rushing — Bosnia & Montenegro

A few months ago, I fulfilled my dream of buying a Land Rover and living on the road, seeking simplicity and creativity. After a storm, I found shelter with a kind elderly couple. Later, I got lost in Lukomir, a timeless place where I stayed for a while.

In Lukomir (in the video I say it wrong), I met two hitchhikers from Germany, and we traveled together, becoming friends. Saying goodbye was tough, and now I feel a bit empty and nostalgic, but I'm learning to embrace it as part of the journey.

Google Maps kept sending me on crazy off-road routes, adding some fun to the adventure. Driving into Montenegro, I encountered a shepherd's place and made memories with two Turkish travelers.

The road taught me to cherish connections, even if they are temporary. Saudade, that longing for what's left behind, now carries the beauty and melancholy of my journey, shaping my nomadic life.

I am Dayo Clinckspoor, an award-winning filmmaker and photographer from Belgium (Ghent). I made the decision to leave everything behind for a while, aiming to live with less, without comfort, and challenging myself creatively on an endless road trip while documenting the journey. "Every year, I feel this urge for freedom, for adventure, especially as the early spring approaches. Last year, I wanted to embark on a long-distance bike ride, despite never having done one in my life. It seemed like a great starting point for a project.

The energy that comes with having such a dream is incredibly powerful for me. It's fueled with ambition and creative ideas, often linked to projects. Fear and discomfort are also part of that feeling. I think we all have those moments, right? A moment of dreaming big, with nothing holding you back.

At some point, it becomes a choice to either listen to it or let it disappear.

Last year, I quickly found enough reasons why it wasn't a good idea, and after a month, my ratio took over and the noise of everyday life made it fade away.

Two months ago, around the same period, I had that burning desire again. Wanting to be alone, on the road, making films of things I find beautiful, all out of my dream car. Something I find both very compelling and also very scary at the same time.

This time, I listened…

I bought my dream car, to go on a road trip through Europe, with Albania as my destination/direction.

Now, let me clarify that this won't be a typical “vacation” by any means. In fact, it might be one of the most challenging journeys or projects I will be doing in a long time. While enjoying silence and nature, I'll be working diligently, including client projects such as web design and branding, and working on various projects.

The whole concept behind this adventure is to trust myself when I have ambitious ideas and follow that energy, using it to create!

I want to test my limits and see what I can achieve with minimal resources, without relying on comfort or structure. And to be honest, the latter is keeping my creative flame small. It will be just me, my Land Rover 🥰, and my camera. "
