Before we can perform molecular biology and biotechnology experiments that use DNA, we need to break open the cell wall and membranes, the nuclear membrane, and then separate the DNA from all the other stuff that is present in the cytoplasm. We do this by lysing the cells and then precipitating the DNA. This video describes the process from start to finish!
