Deva Mai is located just 4 km from the Mata Vaishno Devi Temple. Legend has it that Mata Vaishno Devi meditated here to complete her life as a human during the early phases of Kalyuga. Brief History Hindus for a certain time span after the birth and death of family members, abstain from performing daily religious rituals. When a daughter was born to the priest’s family, he too abstained from entering the temple. That very same night, he dreamt of the Goddess who told him that she is born into the family as his daughter. Considering that the goddess has visited the planet as his daughter, he erected this temple and named it Mai Deva, which roughly translates to the Divine Mother.
