The facilities at the GSE Lab at the faculty of Civil Engineering and Geoscience (CEG) in Delft enables researchers to study geotechnical properties and processes, and also biological, chemical or hydrological processes. This means we capture everything that is relevant in subsurface engineering. The lab facilitates not just one single discipline, but a collection of all these fields together to understand and utilise responsibly resources in planet Earth.
Once, the lab was focused on the mining industry. But the laboratory evolved from fossil fuel based research to the energy transition, environmental engineering and geo-engineering. The present day focus of the lab is creating a cleaner world. And environmentally responsible mining is important, because it will provide us the materials that we need to support the energy transition.
