Kashtany Music Ensemble was made up of
14 female singers, one boy soprano, one boy alto 3 male singers from
the local Perth Ukrainian community
and 6 Australian classical musicians
Perth is the most isolated city in the world 2000 miles from Adelaide .
It had a small but very vibrant Ukrainian community. A very strong Ukrainian music and Ukrainian dance scene
Kashtany existed while Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union.
In 1985 Myroslav a pianist went to Sydney for 3 months to watch the Sydney International Piano Competition. He joined and performed with Peter-Nila Deriashnyj's Ivaciuk choir. Previously Myroslav had never heard of Ivasiuk. He learnt and took back to Perth Ivasiuk melodies and Kashtany Music Ensemble repertoire increased substantially.
