Naga-NewYear-Nanyun (Myanmar)
“Naga” are the ethnic tribal people who live in the tri-junction of India, China and Myanmar. In Myanmar Naga is a multi-ethnic minority group that currently resides in north-eastern/North western Myanmar and is also scattered across India’s states of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
There are approximately 300.000 Naga people in Myanmar, which is divided into 64 tribal groups. Each tribe consists of several clans. In Myanmar they are mostly in Sagaing division, Kachin State and in the Chindwin Basin at the foot of Mount Saramati (Chin State, Myanmar).
Naga people of Myanmar celebrate their New Year in January, 15th every year. I was lucky to attend this grand celebration in Nanyun in 2018. We travelled via WWII fame historical Stilwell Road via Pangsau Pass.
