On July 19, 2025, a peaceful afternoon on Ha Long Bay turned into tragedy. The tourist boat Wonder Sea capsized during a sudden thunderstorm – leaving dozens dead and families shattered.
Around 2:30 PM, Wonder Sea carried 46 passengers and 3 crew members. A sudden storm struck with winds over 60 km/h and huge waves. The boat capsized within minutes, despite passengers begging to turn back.
Of the 49 people onboard, only 11 survived – one later died, leaving 10. Miraculous stories emerged:

A 14-year-old boy survived 4 hours underwater in an air pocket.
Dang Anh Tuan broke a window, followed sunlight, and clung to the hull for 2 hours.
Only 3 of his group of 12 friends survived.
As of July 20, at least 38 were confirmed dead. 4 people remain missing. Hundreds of officers, navy divers, and rescue teams worked overnight in harsh conditions.
Authorities suspect the crew ignored weather warnings. Storm Wipha is approaching the area. Officials urge strict enforcement of boat safety, weather systems, and mandatory drills.
