Here's a tutorial on how I make granular fx and sounds on the Akai MPC Live. There are lots of little tips and tricks, as well as examples on how this granular method sounds. It really is an interesting technique on the new MPC. Very flexible for sound design too.
Should also work on the MPCX and the Touch.
The trick in one sentence is:
Record lots of notes at 64 Note Repeat, then automate the sample start offset and also set Velocity to modulate the sample start.
Then there are lots of details to finesse. But you gotta watch the video to see how to do those.
