Steve Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, is an American actor, comedian, television and radio host. Before becoming a star in the entertainment industry, Harvey tried many jobs, including being a boxer and an insurance salesman. He is currently the host of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man is Harvey's first book, but this book has made him a bestseller in the US and internationally.

Steve Harvey was born in Welch, West Virginia, and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Kent State University and later West Virginia University, though he did not graduate. In the late 1980s, Harvey faced significant personal challenges, including homelessness. During this period, he slept in his car and showered at gas stations or public pools. Rich and Becky Liss, a couple he met during this time, offered him a carpet-cleaning contract and credit at a travel agency, which helped him get back on his feet.
Harvey began his stand-up comedy career in 1985 at the Hilarities Comedy Club in Cleveland. His big break came in 1990 when he became a finalist in the Second Annual Johnnie Walker National Comedy Search. In addition to his television work, Harvey has been a prominent radio personality. He began hosting a morning radio show on Chicago’s WGCI in 1996 and later launched The Steve Harvey Morning Show in 2005, which continues to be a significant part of his media presence.
Harvey is also a best-selling author. His book Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man (2009) became a significant success and was later adapted into a film. He followed this with Straight Talk, No Chaser (2010) and Act Like a Success, Think Like a Success (2014), further establishing himself as a motivational figure offering advice on relationships and personal development.
Steve Harvey has been married three times. His first marriage was to Marcia Harvey in 1981; they divorced in 1994. He then married Mary Shackelford in 1996, and they divorced in 2005. In 2007, he married Marjorie Bridges, and they have been together since. Harvey has seven children, including his stepdaughter Lori Harvey, who is a well-known model and socialite.
In 2010, Harvey and his wife Marjorie founded the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation, which focuses on youth education, mentorship, and empowerment. The foundation aims to provide resources and support to young people, particularly those from underserved communities.
In recent years, Harvey has continued to adapt to the evolving entertainment landscape. In a 2025 interview, he discussed his decision to step away from stand-up comedy, citing the challenges posed by cancel culture and the changing dynamics of humor in the public sphere.
