"We fight for Europe" - Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of Belarus’ democratic forces

International Women’s Day is not a day to celebrate, it is about struggling for peace, justice and democracy.

This was the message of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, leader of Belarus’ democratic forces, as she addressed the European Parliament to mark the day alongside women from Belarus and Ukraine.

She thanked the EU and its member states for supporting Belarus civil society and media and stressed the need to keep fighting for the release of the more than 1,200 political prisoners, including 155 women.
