Assessing whether a pacemaker is functioning normally can be a challenge, since those devices can be pretty complicated. In this lesson I present a case of a critically ill patient with a pacemaker that was having periods of a rapid heart rate. We'll talk about the patient's history, what the monitor showed, and then how to evaluate pacemakers properly... which really depends on understanding how they work.
