The Same finally got going. All might seem well and good in the video but Christ there's still loads of problems. Exhaust gasket for one. That's what's making it sound like a misfire or I don't know what you'd call it. It's covering the entire engine bay in soot too so that's why the side panel is off, just to let some of the smoke out.
Secondly there's zero power in it. If you stuck it on a dyno I'd say it would knock out 105hp but definitely no more than that. I can turn it back up but oh lordy the amount of thick black smoke is stupid. Worse than Ford tw-spec like. That's bad. Not sure what the problem is. Injectors poor maybe idk. Air filter and all that side of it seems ok and turbo is ok too I'd say.
There's a bad hydraulic leak out of it. I must find and sort that.
But the major number one issue above everything else is the clutch. It was slipping crazy when I bought it. The man said a new clutch went in and it still slipped. Opened it up. Clutch was wet with oil. Gearbox input shaft seals wetting the clutch making it slip. Changed seals, noticed creeper box had worn shafts while doing that and got new second hand shafts for it off of Conaty. Put it all in, all back together, clutch wouldn't disengage, I couldn't put it into gear even. Adjusted pedal, can get it into gear now but yeah, all the gears are still crunchy and something's not right. I should not have to double clutch this tractor, it is supposed to be fully synchronised and lovely and smooth like. To top things off not only is it not fully disengaging, it slipped on me once while driving up the avenue with the mower. And for feck sake like there's only 100 odd horsepower going through it, how would it cope if the full 170hp was being sent through it. Disaster. Bought the tractor to slog 2000 gallon of slurry around the place, not a hope it would do that.
I noticed after I parked it in the shed after I did the bales as well I'd lost a front wheel stud. Sure enough I think it was even gone during the mowing looking at the footage. Someone went bananas tightening them before me and stripped maybe 4 of them on the front axle and then tried to tap them out bigger and bigger studs. Yeah it didn't work very well.
540/1000 conversion waiting to happen as well, should be going ahead in the next few weeks. Gears from a scrapped buffalo 130 should fit. Back ends look identical. 1000 only pto is not much good to me for tanking slurry or should I need it to bale hilly or wet ground. In fairness the 7810 is some little trooper on the baler but yeah, nearly got bate on the lower field back near the trees. Could do with a total refurbish that tractor. It deserves it I think, it's done a good amount of work this summer virtually trouble free. A leaking exhaust V band which was fixed in an evening. That's it. Great tractor that one. I probably just should have bought a second 10 series Ford to be honest....
Now for all the bad points about the Same, there is the odd good thing. It's quite comfortable on the road. Slow but comfortable. It doesn't do 30k even I'd say. I should let it rev out more but the engine isn't fettled up nicely yet. If that engine is banjaxed the price of parts for them is crazy as far as I know so maybe the better option might be to find a replacement engine.
You'd go far to find a Same 1056pt engine and further again to find a 1056pti which is the intercooler version in the Galaxy. Only the Laser150 Hercules160 and Galaxy170 had the turbo-spec engines and none were common. Amac zm-2 beet harvesters had them and maybe some generators but literally that's about the only places I know where they are.
So my notion now is maybe rob the Cummins 6bt engine out of the lorry over the yard and modify that into it......hmmmmm.....cummins powered Galaxy.....coooool :) Might never happen but a cool notion.
Originally bought the Daf to stick the engine into a 7610 as I could do with another small tractor for wrapping and things but I wouldn't want a 4 cylinder. I had a set of 7810 frame rails bought and all for that idea but now I see the engine in the Same is not great so might park the Cummins in there....not sure.....I'll have to think about it......
So yeah that's about it. Second cut done, waiting for the Visa to head off to NZ again...I'm going to stop rambling now....hope you like the video :p
