Traditional Owners of Juukan Gorge, the PKKP (Puutu Kunti Kurrama and Pinikura People) are interviewed on their Country in the Pilbara, Western Australia, by the site where their 46,000-year-old caves once stood. Rio Tinto blew up the caves in May 2020 to expand its iron ore mine. The caves contained numerous evidence of human existence dating back at least 46,000 years, including a number of artefacts and a plate of human hair. Rio Tinto was well aware of the enormous cultural and archeological significance of the caves and the PKKP's repeated attempts to save it, but the mining giant proceeded to destroy it under Western Australia's out-dated Aboriginal cultural heritage legislation, which favours industry and disempowers Traditional Owners. Footage shows the Juukan Gorge caves before and after the blast.
