The Mana Witch, the Milk Thief, and Saint George | Fertility and Vegetation Rites

Some witches are up to no good on Saint George’s. They mount striga horses, fly to their sabbaths, and battle for the harvest. They steal the prosperity of neighbors’ fields. They slip into barns to steal cows’ milk, or send their spiriduși and milk hares to carry out the deed. And they do it all for the mana.
