‘Passover’ Lesson 5, Q3 Sabbath School 2025, The Biblical Perspective

Welcome to the next episode in our Exodus series! In this video, we closely examine the tenth plague—the death of Egypt’s firstborn—and its powerful place in the Exodus story.

First, we ask why this plague was so severe. This final judgment broke Pharaoh’s resistance after he ignored repeated warnings and escalated plagues. The sorrow touched every Egyptian family, signifying the seriousness of stubborn opposition to God’s will.

We address the hard question: Was it fair for so many to suffer because of Pharaoh’s rebellion? While difficult, the story shows that Pharaoh’s choices had far-reaching effects, and God’s judgment came only after much patience and warning. In that culture, the firstborn represented the future of each household, making the consequences deeply significant and communal.

Next, we explore why God protected the Israelites as described in Exodus 12:13-14. God told the Israelites to place lamb’s blood on their doors. This act of obedience and faith—known as Passover—meant judgment would “pass over” them, illustrating God’s mercy and the importance of trusting His instructions.
