Biodiversity underpins our health, livelihoods, and economies – from crop pollination and clean water to climate regulation. But it is under severe pressure, with human activities driving unprecedented declines in terrestrial, marine and freshwater biodiversity.
With five years left to achieve the 2030 mission of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework — to halt and reverse biodiversity loss — swift action is needed. Realigning economic incentives is key. As outlined in Target 18, governments must scale up incentives that support biodiversity conservation and its sustainable use.
What role can biodiversity-positive incentives play, including in finance mobilisation? How can we scale up incentives for biodiversity? And how can we ensure these incentives are effective?
This OECD Green Talks LIVE webinar discusses these questions during the launch of the OECD report Scaling Up Biodiversity-Positive Incentives: Delivering on Target 18 of the Global Biodiversity Framework. Following a presentation of the report’s key findings, a panel of biodiversity experts and policymakers share their reflections and country insights. The webinar is moderated by Jo Tyndall, Director of the OECD Environment Directorate.
