In Search of St Serf
In Pre-Reformation Scotland, July 1st was the Feast of St Serf – The great Scottish Saint know as Apostle of the Ochils. We were fortunate to be allowed rare access to St Serf’s Hermitage caves on the private grounds of the Carmelite Convent of Dysart. The sisters told us all about the wonderful ancient history of the site from Pagan times, to St Serf and the Culdees to the Reformation and eventual return of the Religious orders to the site. Each July 1st these caves would be the centre of much celebration and pageantry and Mass would be said. Here is a little about the life and legend of St Serf!
