🕕 What Happened
• On Wednesday evening around 6:50 PM local time in North Minneapolis, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot and injured a man during a law enforcement operation, according to the Department of Homeland Security and local officials.

• Federal officials describe the incident as beginning with a targeted traffic stop of the man — originally from Venezuela — identified as being in the U.S. without legal status.

• According to DHS, the subject fled the scene in his vehicle, crashed into a parked car, and then escaped on foot. During the subsequent attempted arrest on foot, several people — including the main suspect and two others — allegedly attacked the ICE agent with a snow shovel and a broomstick before the agent fired what federal officials called defensive shots, hitting the man in the leg.

• The man and the two others barricaded themselves inside an apartment afterward and were later taken into custody. The ICE agent was also hospitalized with injuries, though he is expected to survive, authorities say.

🔥 Public Reaction & Response On Scene

• A large crowd gathered at the scene in North Minneapolis after news of the shooting spread. Law enforcement responded by deploying chemical irritants (tear gas) and flash-bang devices to control the crowd, as tensions rose between protesters and federal officers.

• Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O’Hara scheduled a press briefing later in the night (10:15 PM local) to speak about the incident and the city’s response.

• City officials reiterated that Minneapolis supports immigrant and refugee communities while also urging the public to remain calm as the situation unfolds.
