Bill Andrews, Co-Founder, Pragmatic Tracker; Honorary Researcher, University of Roehampton
CREST seminar, Wed, 10 November 2021, 18:00–19:00

While evidence-based practice may be the dominant paradigm of our era it is not without its critics. Practice-based evidence, gathered through networks or practitioners, provides a complementary 'real-world' perspective on therapy from the front line of service delivery. Practice-based evidence can provide the opportunity for engagement of practitioners with tools more typically associated with research settings. It can also encourage practitioners and clients to be aware of the progress they are making in treatment and provide a mechanism for the promotion of a transparent culture of feedback. This encourages a level playing field, with a non-hierarchical collaborative relationship between client, therapist, and organisation. Bill's talk will critically examine contemporary practices and developments in practice-based evidence, looking at examples of current practice research networks.

About Bill Andrews: Following a successful career as a dentist Bill went from 'dental' to 'mental' and trained as a Human Givens therapist, graduating in 2004. He took an early interest in the need for evidence of the effectiveness of the approach and the considerable challenge of the provision of practice-based evidence complementary to the dominant 'evidence-based practice' paradigm. As well as completing his masters in psychological trauma at University of Chester Bill trained extensively with Scott Miller in 'Feedback-Informed Treatment (FIT) in the USA. He's published papers and a book chapter based on practice-based evidence gathered through Practice Research Networks and has lectured widely on the subject. Together with colleague Tony Jordan he co-created a software programme, Pragmatic Tracker, to facilitate the routine use of outcome and feedback instruments in daily practice which is used by a variety of Universities, Institutes and organisations internationally. Bill has recently been appointed to an honorary research position at Roehampton University and has a keen interest in supporting CREST. Bill loves climbing Scottish mountains and cycling in his spare time.
