In a historic first, ​Lagos State is hosting the inaugural African leg of the E1 Electric Powerboat Racing Championship this weekend.

The event, which emphasizes clean technology and gender-balanced teams, reflects evolving priorities in international sporting competitions, while reinforcing Lagos’ image as Africa’s cultural and economic hub.

​In security news, Barrister Onyesom Peace Udoka and her sister, Gift Onyesom, were safely rescued on Tuesday, September 30th, after being kidnapped near Lokoja.

The rescue, facilitated by activist Harrison Gwamnishu and along with military personnel, occurred just in time for Barrister Udoka's birthday and has gone viral on social media.

​Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar denied media reports claiming he pledged to step down for a younger candidate in the 2027 presidential election.

His spokesman, Paul Ibe, clarified that Atiku's actual statement was that he would support a younger candidate only if they emerged through a competitive primary.

Online, some users brought up the former Vice President’s age and questioned whether he could fix a nation like Nigeria.

Separately, Atiku's spokesman, Phrank Shaibu, criticized President Tinubu's Independence Day claims of progress in education, healthcare, economy, and security, arguing that the government is "disconnected from citizens’ harsh realities."

​Finally, author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie received a major international honor, The Mermaid Literary Prize, at the Gothenburg Book Fair in Sweden, drawing a record-breaking crowd of 1,500 people. This award is the latest in a rapid succession of three major European literary prizes, celebrating her powerful storytelling on identity and feminism.
