One Vision Productions is proud to announce our second release in 2019, “Gurrama” from the super talented students of Alstonville High School, Northern Rivers, New South Wales.
The mob from Alstonville are celebrating their proud Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture and identity in this Hip hop track produced during an 8-week “Music for Change” workshop with One Vision Productions.
During the Program the students worked with Bundjalung Elder, and Cultural Mentor Uncle Rob Brown who shared his sacred knowledge of Bundjalung Culture and Language with the students.
The lyrics express the strength and courage of these young Aboriginal students who are taking ownership of their identities, standing strong and proud in their Culture and Language. The lyrics remind other young Indigenous people, who are battling with their identity, to stay strong and proud of who they are and how they feel.
The translation of Bundjalung words and phrases remind us to appreciate the ancient ways which have been passed down from Elders through generation, and invite other young Indigenous Youth to keep their own Culture and Language alive.
Special thanks to The Bundjalung Language and Culture Nest and Uncle Robert Brown for sharing their knowledge of Bundgalung language with the students at Alstonville High School. One Vision Productions would also like to thank Alstonville High School for their on going support, and Aaron Peters their Aboriginal Education Officer (AEO), for being the biggest legend and throughout the 8 weeks program, and on-going.
16 of the students who participated in this program are now apart of One Vision Productions 20-week Creative Mentoring Program. The student's are working hard on creative projects in their field of interest with industry professionals.
