Tref-y-Clawdd a good name as this Welsh border town's name translated is "Town on the Hedge or Border" and this is because it sits on the historic Offa's Dyke, the man made earthen boundary ditch and rampart built by King Offa of Mercia (Saxon) in around 785AD. The linear earthwork roughly follows the Welsh/English boundary and is thought to have been constructed as defensive because the ditch is on the Welsh side. Tref-y-Clawdd is unique in Wales in that two National Trails meet - Offa's Dyke Path and Glyndwr's Way. The English name for the town is Knighton it is not a translation of the Welsh name but a name in its own right. The name Tref-y-Clawdd has been in existence since the 13th Century but was not officially recognised as the towns name until 1971. If there ever was a border town this is it. @walkingwithbill explores this border town which has its railway station in another country.
