BlazBlue Entropy Effect

I've never played any BlazBlue games before this one. It has a few things going for it that caught my attention first being the art style, and then the fighting game feel which features lots of different combos to try and pull off. However, while the boss fights can be very tough, most enemies are not very challenging at least early on. In my experience simply button mashing will get you past most of the baddies. For me, it took quite a while to stock up resources with which to unlock a new character so I got kind of stuck developing the character I picked in the beginning. Maybe I missed something important though. Have you ever played anything in this series and how was your experience with the game?
