This video highlights the success of the 2017 Practice Parliament For Women in Papua New Guinea, an event organised from 6-13 March 2017 for 50 female candidates who nominated for the 2017 national elections. In 2017, only three of 111 members of the National Parliament were women.
The programme delivered in Port Moresby trained women in critical national policy issues, parliamentary processes and campaign strategies and saw the National Parliament host a historic first-ever Practice Parliament Session for Women. In a sign of success, 43 out of 50 women participants in the programme contested the 2017 National Elections.
The training was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in coordination with Office of Integrity of Political Parties, the National Parliament and Department of Community Development and Religion
