Here we have a 1980 Williams pinball machine in action. This game is pretty rare with only 349 units manufactured. This one came to me completely in pieces as the owner had stripped the top side of the playfield years ago with the intention of restoring it. He never finished the job and eventually just wanted me to put it back together so he could play it and here we are.
The major unique feature of this game is ball chamber on the right side. Hitting the three captive balls spots the three targets and the ball release feature from the shooter lane on the upper left side. Other unique features include the river styx shot up the middle and the lack of an inlane on the left, which drives me friggin' crazy. The spinner shots are satisfying and shooting drops is always fun, but this game can be frustrating as hell with the stupid drain monster on the right between the two slingshots.
This game, according to my research, is rare because it didn't perform well during testing in the arcades. I suspect it's because it's a drain hungry bitch and wide as hell, so making the shots is a pain in the rear.
Algar was designed by Tony Kraemer with artwork by Constantino Mitchell and Jeanine Mitchell. More information about this game can be found here: https://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=42
