"What Child Is This", a common Christmas carol is sung to the tune "Greensleeves", a well known 16th century English ballad.
The text was written by William Chatterton Dix, born at Bristol, June 14, 1837. Dix composed many familiar hymns used today, such as, "As with gladness men of old,” and ”Come unto Me, Ye Weary"
This is played on a Doherty & Co. reed organ (pump organ), by using the foot treadles instead of the blow handle. This gives great versatility with this type of instrument since you can use the expression with the foot treadles and play it like any other expressive reed organ, or play it like a pipe organ with the foot pedals with a bellows operator. The organ is called a "Cathedral" model, and it has been recently restored from a total wreck.
