After three years in power, the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government appears to be shifting into action mode. A recent statement by the Chief Minister has triggered intense political speculation across Himachal Pradesh. Sukhu has clearly indicated that ministerial departments will now be decided on the basis of performance, not status or seniority — a remark widely seen as a precursor to a major cabinet reshuffle and expansion.

This statement gains significance as the Sukhu government completes three years in office, while one cabinet berth still remains vacant. Despite repeated discussions since 2023, cabinet expansion was consistently postponed — until now. For the first time, the Chief Minister has publicly acknowledged that both cabinet expansion and departmental reshuffling are imminent.

The statement was made during the Winter Carnival in Manali, where Sukhu emphasized continuous performance review and hinted at changes in underperforming departments. Politically, this signals a performance audit of ministers, something rarely done so openly in Himachal politics.

The video also revisits the January 2023 cabinet formation, where Sukhu retained powerful portfolios like Finance, Home, Personnel, and Planning, while key departments were allotted to senior leaders such as Mukesh Agnihotri, Vikramaditya Singh, Jagat Singh Negi, and others.

Recent tensions — particularly between the PWD minister and bureaucracy — public advisories by the CM, and political mobilization at Shimla’s power corridors suggest that all is not smooth within the government. Sources also indicate that Sukhu has discussed the reshuffle with the Congress high command in Delhi, making it clear that upcoming decisions will carry central approval.
