My partner Poli and I came across an incredible trail this past weekend, while committed to finding beautiful blooms of Sempasúchitl, the orange flower with deep history of adorning ofrendas and graveyards during El día de Muertos.
Deep in the Chinampas of Xochimilco, we ride though this maze of Chinampas, or floating gardens - an agricultural engineering marvel developed by the Ancient Aztec civilization, dating back to when the entire present day Mexico City was still a LAKE navigated by a complex system of canals.
Usually this deeply protected area is closed off and mostly accessible to locals only. However, due to the season of Dia de Muertos, the zone is more welcoming to visitors, outsiders, and Sempasúchitl flower fans!! Que bonita esta temporada en la ciudad de mexico.
This is a fine example of unexpected finds and how Mexico continues to blow my mind on a regular basis
