In the film Titanic,
there was a small band that kept playing
even as the ship sank into the dark sea.
The hymn they played was “Nearer, My God, to Thee.”
We cannot choose the moment of our final farewell,
but if I could choose one last hymn,
I would choose this one.
“Angels to beckon me, nearer, my God, to Thee.
So by my woes to be, nearer, my God, to Thee.”
This piece is performed by flute, clarinet, and organ,
