Lambay Castle is the ancestral home of the Revelstokes, Maude & Cecil Baring, and is still protected by their family today, four generations later. The original Old Fort was built in the late 15th/early 16th century. The Lutyens Guest Wing and renovations were added in 1908-1910. Referred to as one of Lutyens’s finest examples of domestic architecture, the two sections of Lambay Castle complement each other perfectly and are seamlessly, almost invisibly, connected by a long central corridor that runs beneath the East Terrace.

David Averill
Dip. Arch., HDip. Proj. Man., MRIAI
David Averill studied at Bolton Street College of Technology from 1980 to 1986 where he gained a Diploma in Architecture and a Degree in Architectural Science from Trinity College Dublin. He has been working with Sheehan & Barry Architects since late 1986. He was made an associate in 1998 and has been a partner since 2002. He has been a member of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland since 1989. He has worked on a number of significant Conservation projects such as Gilltown Stud, Co, Kildare, 8 Stephens Green, Dublin 2; 58 Merrion Square, Dublin 2; Russborough House, Co. Wicklow and numerous other large and small projects during his time with Sheehan & Barry. He has developed a particular interest in the conservation of buildings as well as how buildings can be sensitively added to or updated where required.

Millie Baring
Millie Baring is the Director of Hospitality for Lambay and the great-granddaughter of Cecil & Maude Baring, who purchased Lambay Island in 1904. She lives on Lambay with her partner Tom and co-manages the island with her brother, Alex Baring (7th Baron Revelstoke). Millie founded the Lambay Club in 2016 and is currently studying a MSc in Psychotherapy & Counselling in Dublin.

Stuart Martin

Stuart first encountered Lutyens through the Patrick Nuttgens TV programme that coincided with the Hayward Gallery Exhibition in 1981. He pursued this interest at University, writing a dissertation on Lutyens’ Classical architecture, and beginning his own solo visits to the houses when he could. In his subsequent career as an architect of country houses, Stuart has sought to combine his reverence for Lutyens’ work, with its love of traditional forms and materials with sensitivity to the varying contexts of our own times. He has been a member of the Lutyens Trust for 20 years, and a member of the Events Committee for more than 10 years.
