Please see the Macgyvilator Mk2 here! • The Macgyvilator disaster ventilator Mk2! ...
-------------
Introducing the Macgyvilator Mk 1 disaster "ventilator", a simple apparatus to compress a bag-valve-mask with some control over tidal volume and rate. Constructed quickly and simply using wood, PVC, velcro, common fasteners, and easily sourced and assembled electronic components.
I've been dismayed at the US's current state of readiness with regard to ventilators, and I've been horrified by the stories coming from other places ahead of the US on the COVID-19 curve. At the same time, I've been heartened by the work I've read elsewhere about 3D-printed ventilators and the like. This is my effort to contribute to the corpus, but this time designing (and building) something that doesn't require a 3D printer, machine shop, and/or programming a controller board. To be clear, this is not a substitute for a real ventilator. This is a last resort that's one step above hand-bagging, and it's an open-source basis for other people to tweak and/or build onto.
This is meant to be a discussion starter; concerns and suggestions welcome! Let's make this simpler/cheaper/more robust/better. If you have access to a PFT machine and can help me get flow-volume loops and such, please contact me! Happy to supply a parts list and/or assembly instructions to anyone who wants it.
First YouTube video ever, BTW. Comments were disabled, now active. Apologies.
