On Friday, October 25, 2024, I made a visit to the Strasburg Rail Road on my way home for the weekend. I decided to make this visit to see their railroad’s 2-6-0 Mogul in action once again, this time with a unique voice.
The voice in question was a Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) single-note “banshee” whistle, which has an extremely shrill and ghostly tone. This quality is what gave the whistle its nickname, “banshee.” With such an eerie-sounding whistle, it was appropriate to hear its presence most of October leading up to Halloween.
Regardless, please enjoy this epic and slightly spooky Halloween-dedicated video of 89 with the banshee!
