We share a long and enchanting relationship with fireflies--the Chinese used to capture them to use in lanterns. But suburban sprawl has eradicated wetlands and endangered the fireflies' habitat. The chemical in their phosphorescence is potentially crucial for some medical procedure - we need to save their habitat if we are to maintain our age-old relationship.
